Well, spring break is coming! I’m wondering if most people are staying around here or taking off somewhere. Has the economy changed your plans? And, how about your kids… are they already in spring break mode and not as focused on school? If so, what can we do to motivate them to hang in until break and give their best effort?
Honors Concert Series Showcases Talent March 3, 2009

Nearly 1200 students will perform in an Honors Concert Series which began last night and will continue this Friday and next Tuesday evenings. Students in all school levels, elementary through high school, were accepted to participate. Choir, band, and orchestra are all included. The CUSD Foundation underwrites professional conductors for this event.
These students are either chosen by their teacher or audition. Then, after much practice, they perform on a huge stage in front of a live audience, with professional conductors. I don’t know about you, but I think this is an incredible opportunity for the students.
Studies have proven that kids who participate in music programs achieve higher grades and more overall success in school. What do you think? Are music programs a vital part of learning? Do they contribute to greater self esteem? How about helping kids feel a part of a group? Do you think there is value in having music participation included in college applications?
I’d like to hear your comments.
